Klout adds support for Foursquare

Social scoring service Klout has just added a fourth service to measure your social impact. Foursquare now joins Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, in contributing to your overall rating. Could this be the shot in the arm Foursquare needs to re-engage users in a post Facebook Check-in world ?
If Klout succeeds in its mission to be the quantifying measurement that your social influence is based on, then having representation on every service they add will be crucial. I’ve recently heard a number of discussions around how Klout scores could be used, including the filtering of employment prospects based on your Klout score. Best to get Checking-in now.
Don’t forget you can push Foursquare check-ins over to Facebook, but I suspect Klout would detect this kind of automatic activity and rate it lower. Similar to pushing tweets to Facebook and vice versa. It’s easy to Add Foursquare to Klout, simply login at http://klout.com

Facebook Product tags. Brands rejoice !

Facebook just launched another new feature, the ability to tag products in photos ! If you or your friends are holding, sittings, standing or even throwing products, then you can now tag them, just like you would a person.
This is potentially a massive deal for brands. Previously business have relied on users clicking Like on their Facebook page to know who uses their products. By having Facebook Product tags on individual photos tagged, this allow notifications to flow to the product provider (in the example above – Canon), to provide further information how, when and where their products are being used.
So the question is, will you as a Facebook user, spend the time to tag products of companies in Facebook Photos ? And what if by tagging yourself using a product allowed that company to offer you incentives to recommend it to your friends ? That’s not a feature available yet, but today’s new feature seems like a step in that inevitable direction.
Signed out of Twitter ? Now go mobile.
Along with Twitter’s recent update to their signup page and mobile site, now comes yet another redesign. The Sign out page now promotes Twitter’s mobile applications. Device support ranges from the iPhone and iPad, to Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phone 7.
Not too sure how much traffic this page actually gets.. we’re all addicted to our twitter aren’t we ? The only reason I stumbled across it is to switch accounts, which actually should be made a lot easier. There you go Twitter devs, something else to work on. Currently, Google is probably the only provider doing multi-accounts right.

Twitter buying Tweetdeck for $40-50Mil. TwitterDeck

Good move Twitter. A couple of months ago, Twitter announced a change in direction, that was to focus more on building Twitter, no longer relying on the 3rd party software developers that had made them a success. Platforms after all are bigger than a single business.. right ?
This morning news arrives from Tech Crunch, that Twitter will pull out the cheque book and buy one of the most (if not the most) successful twitter clients, TweetDeck. The $25-30 Million on the table from UberMedia earlier this year was apparently out-bid by Twitter for between US$40-50 million.
Twitter could have gone down the path of developing an ‘official’ twitter client in-house, but has done the right thing and paid the developers for their hard work. This now presents an interesting situation in the mobile space. Twitter previously acquired Tweetie and turned it into the ‘official’ twitter mobile app. So what happens now to the mobile version of TweetDeck ? Will it become the new flavour of the day or continue to compete for market share.
One massive advantage of owning TweetDeck is that twitter can now push ads to one of an audience of millions who use Adobe-AIR built, multi-column desktop client. While twitter is still working on its business model, ads will certainly play a part at some point. Right now we have promoted tweets which TweetDeck actually supports (this could be an API requirement), but by owning the client outright, Twitter are free to experiment.

Facebook add videos, photos, websites to comments
Just include a link within a comment and that content will then be pulled into the comment stream. This is both a good and bad thing. People have been posting links to this content anyway, this just makes it more visual and convenient. The downside is of course that your comment threads now become a lot longer.
Time to break out that large external display.. or higher res MacBook Air.
