Dell enter sub-notebook category, introducing the Inspiron Mini 9

Dell have finally launched their long awaited mini Inspiron laptop. This is their first product in the very crowded sub-notebook category.
The Inspiron Mini 9, as you may have guessed from the name comes with 9” screen (well 8.9” to be exact) running 1024X600 resolution. As for the operating system, Dell gives you a choice of XP or Ubuntu.
One problem with the mini inspiron is that you can only choose a solid state drive, so anyone wanted a little extra storage than the “up to 16GB” is out of luck. You can see the rest of the tech specs here.
Other than that, the the Mini Inspiron 9 looks stylish, and has a solid feature set. Given Dell’s massive marketshare in the corporate environment, let’s hope they can avoid the ghosting issues that prevent many organisations from utilizing sub-notebooks.
Without getting hands on, it’s difficult to tell if the keyboard is going to be as painfully useless as the Asus EeePC 900/901.

Dell have now added updated their Australian site to include the Inspiron Mini 9, however you have to call for pricing.

In a press release from Dell..
“In Australia, the Inspiron Mini 9 will initially be available in black with Windows® XP® for AUD$599 including GST and delivery. Additional colours will be available in the near future.”
