SquareSpace v6 delayed

‘The secret behind exceptional websites’ Squarespace has had a new version in the works for a long time now. Back in May SquareSpace teased us with the upcoming changes to the platform. A number popular internet celebrities Like Kevin Rose and Leo Laporte have made mention that they have seen v6, however we are now headed for October with no sign of it.
Back in May we reported the beta was rolling out to early testers in ‘weeks’ after SquareSpace’s own blog delivered screen shots of the refresh. In June SquareSpace posted that v6 had been in development for more than 6 months internally.
Our team has been hammering on it internally for 6 months ensuring that it has the inherent flexibility that developers want and need.
So the question remains.. where the hell is SquareSpace v6 ? Most blogging and CMS platforms received updates and improvements over time, however SquareSpace has remained the same. The theory is that by being hosted in the cloud, that updates become easier to distribute to users, however the reality of the SquareSpace update is that it has been delayed by many months.
To be honest, I’ve struggled with SquareSpace, it’s certainly easy to use and and fast to get a website online, but is limited in its functionality. Version 6 of SquareSpace was supposed to go a long way to address user feedback, but for that to occur, it needs to ship.
WordPress 3.2 available now, drops IE6 support

Once again its time for WordPress administrators to upgrade, this time to the latest 3.2 release. In this release WordPress finally drops support for IE6, given its 10 years, its about time. There’s also a new requirement on the back end to be running PHP 5.2.4 and MySQL 5.0, so just check what version your host runs before jumping into the upgrade.
According to WordPress, there’s more than 400 improvements. Check out the video below for an introduction to WordPress 3.2 Gershwin.

Mac blogging applications
For a while now I’ve been in search of a decent blogging application on the Mac. In Windows I use Windows Live Writer, which is free, but I’ve been unable to find a free solution on the mac side.
If I’m going to pay, for a blogging app, it had better be a great app. The top apps appear to be..
I’m actually not after the cheapest, but rather the best solution for the job. I’ll use the trial versions of these for about a week to make my final decision. What are your thoughts ? What do you use ?
New Windows Live Writer – tech preview ads a bunch of new features
There’s a new version of the blogging application Windows Live Writer. Currently in the ‘Technical Preview’ stage, there’s a bunch of new features:
- Tabbed views – Edit / Preview / Source
- Image cropping and rotating (can’t use this if you copy + paste an image into a post, only insert).
- Categories are also now searchable.
- Word count
- Insert Video upgraded, allows for upload from local machine (to SoapBox).
- New image effects:
Reflection, Rounded Corners, Border
Update: I’ve had some problems with the new image effects not displaying correctly on the blog. The image above is a screen shot of how it appears in Live Writer, rather than the about screen with the effect applied.
