Microsoft’s E3 keynote – “Xbox, the future revealed”
Thanks to the time zone gods, tomorrow the day will start around 2AM. Microsoft will open the electronic entertainment expo, better known as E3, with a keynote that is said to showcase “Xbox, the future revealed”. A very intriguing title indeed.
We already know Nintendo have committed to showing off a playable version of their next console. Previously Microsoft had been quoted as saying the Xbox 360’s lifespan would be around 10 years. As we know, the likes of the PS2 can live on for a very long time, but doesn’t mean the successor has to wait till that 10 years is over. So are we likely to get a sneak peak at the Xbox 720 ? That’d be two big reveals in a week (the other being Windows 8).
A more likely scenario is that Microsoft will talk about future game releases using Kinect and potentially expand Zune services. As always techAU will follow the news and be tweeting updates as we go. There’ll be live streams available, so join in the complimentary discussions, thoughts, opinions on twitter.
For those more sane people, there’ll be a summary blog post of the announcement for you to digest over your breakfast coffee.
Microsoft are making sure you don’t miss the action, watch it on Microsoft’s Facebook page, on your Xbox 360 or Windows Phone. E3 is jam packed with press conferences, Microsoft will be followed by EA, Ubisoft and Sony tomorrow, then its Nintendo’s turn on Wednesday morning.

Microsoft CES 2011 Keynote–The important bits
Despite a couple of days of pre-CES news, CES 2011 officially begins at 1:30PM AEDST. As usual, Microsoft have the headlining spot to kick things off, with CEO Steve Ballmer running the show.
This morning we seen press conferences from Samsung, Motorola, Panasonic, Sony, Hitachi, Sharp and LG to name a few. There’s been plenty of tablets, smart phones, 3D, HDTVs, cameras announced, so what’s in store for Microsoft ?
During the press event yesterday, we heard info on Surface 2, Windows 8 running on Arm processors, so expect a rehash of that. Don’t doubt there’ll be mentions of the companies successes in gaming with Xbox and Kinect, and mobile with Windows Phone 7.
This post will be updated as the important parts are announced, so watch closely, or check back later for a summary. If you want to see the action happen live, Microsoft are streaming (using Silverlight) a very high quality stream 1.3Mbps over at the Microsoft CES site.

Apple WWDC 2009 keynote coverage – 08/06/2009
Tomorrow morning 3am AEST Apple’s developer conference begins with a Phil Schiller keynote. There’s a lot of speculation around as with any Apple event. Probably this time more than ever. It’s 2 years since the original iPhone announcement, 1 year since the iPhone 3G announcement and 1 year since the announcement of Apple’s newest operating system – Snow Leopard (OSX.6). There’s also many rumours about a tablet announcement, but I don’t think so, happy to be wrong on that one.
The Australian times for the keynote are as follows:
Melbourne/Sydney/Brisbane/Canberra 3:00 AM
Adelaide/Darwin time – 2:30 AM
Perth time – 1:00 AM
There’ll be plenty of people covering the event and there’s sure to be some sneaky people who get a live audio feed from the event. The race will be on to find those people.
Sources of content I’ll be watching are..
- Twitter (via TweetDeck), watching = “Apple OR WWDC”, “iPhone”, “Snow Leopard”.
- TWiT Live – http://live.twit.tv
- Tech Blogs live blogging – [engadget], [gizmodo], [gdgt]
- Mactalk [link]
I’ll be checking http://ustream.tv, http://stickam.com, http://justin.tv, for live feeds. Experience has shown that sites are bound to go down during live events, particularly Apple’s, that’s why backups are a great idea.
Did I mention having multiple monitors is great this time of year ?
