Painting buildings in light. Electric Canvas team up with Intel

With the help of technology, a seemingly dull building can be brought to life with light. The video below is actually an advertisement from Intel, but given its a brilliant use of technology, it seemed appropriate. Electric Canvas is a company that creates art buy using an array of projectors to take over buildings with pre-built computer-controlled lightshows. The result is amazing.
Lead designer at Electric Canvas, Nick Tory walks us through the story behind the video and just what’s involved in bringing a building to life. About 5 minutes into the video, we see the building appear to collapse, stunning given that its just a lighting effect.

DIY Philips Ambilight TV – Ikea LED Dioder kit
Whilst Philips has their Ambilight TV range, having a glowing lightshow of colour behind your screen comes as at a cost. A creative guy by the name of Marc Lane of IkeaHacker has created an alternative. Making use of an Ikea bookcase turned sideways and a IKEA LED Dioder kit, it makes for a unique cheaper option.
Naturally the Philips solution is a little more advanced with it’s colours being an extension of the image currently being displayed on the screen. Still, Marc’s looks great and is a good alternative.
