Unboxing – new audio setup (Heil PR40)

Posted on: 25/Sep/09

There comes a time in every podcasts journey when things need to be upgraded. That time has arrived. I’m investing in the podcast with some serious new audio gear.

New items include:

  • Heil PR40 Microphone
  • Heil PL2T Mic Stand
  • Heil SM-2B Shock mount
  • Vinsheild pop filter

Check out the video below to see the unboxing and setup of the new audio equipment.

Update
The new audio setup is now complete. I’ve recorded some audio, check out, see what you think.

    Nice unboxing Jason..

Quick question, what camera are you using to record all this with?

The camera is a Sony HDR-SR1.

And that's plugged straight into your PC right…..or MacBook?

I've got a JVC HD7 which is nice, but I can't set it up like a web cam (for want of a better term) and record directly to my MacBook..

Starting to think about selling it and picking up something else like a Sony, or a Canon..

I run HDMI out of the video camera, into a Blackmagic Intensity Pro capture card.

Nice audio set-up there. You (and we) will certainly hear the difference in quality, The Heil is a quality item. I previously did a podcast for amateur radio and used a standard Sure PG58 and audio mixer with good results. Microphone technique is important to good quality audio and I think Leo Laporte mentioned this once as well. Look forward to the new work.
